Who should I talk to about electrical safety?
A competent electrician, like any of our team members here at Power Squad Electricians, should be able to give you advice about electrical safety. They should also be capable of directing you to an appropriate electrical engineer to provide advice in specialized areas.
What voltages are dangerous?
Different voltages can pose danger for different reasons. A very low voltage, such as a single torch battery’s voltage, can cause a spark that is strong enough to set off an explosive atmosphere. A persons can be injured by voltages higher than 50 volts AC. A person is more likely to be injured by an electric shock if the environment is damp or contains a lot of metalwork.
What should I do if I find an unsafe electrical installation or equipment?
You should warn others if you suspect you have an unsafe electric installation. If it is safe, you can turn it off. Contact an approved contractor like Power Squad Electricians if you feel that your electrical installation is unsafe.
You should contact the owner of any unsafe installation that you suspect is not yours or under your control. Contact numbers should be attached to electrical distribution poles, equipment, and pylons.
How do I know if someone is competent at doing electrical work?
An accredited training organization can assess if a person is competent to perform electrical work. The person should be able to apply and understand electrical theory.
It is possible to demonstrate competence in general electric work by completing an electrical apprenticeship. You will likely need additional training and experience for more specialized work like maintenance of high voltage switchgear or control system modifications.
